The World of Big Data

I already knew privacy was an issue but I didn’t really know how bad it’s becoming. Before watching all the Ted Talks I thought most of my information was relatively safe online because that’s what apps want you to think. But after watching those videos I realized that my privacy is not as secure as I thought it was. Which makes me want to be more cautious of what I post online. As technology evolves the less privacy we have with our own data. Our world is already being driven by technology and as the years go by technology will continue to be a main part of our lives. As the years go by the more people are trying to find ways to stop our information from being shared publicly without our permission. There’s a chance we may never reach full privacy but I hope we come close to making something where our privacy is no longer being shared. I think the biggest privacy concern in big data today is obviously our own privacy on day to day social media apps and emails. I learned emails aren’t safe unless you have a special encryption email server. The government has access to your emails and so does a lot of other places. I think it’s also scary that anyone has access to your email and can send you stuff. I learned that fr my spam folder. When you scroll through social media apps and see ads they are specially for targeting you and your interests that’s because google tracks what you look up. Apps are targeting you and trying to get you to spend money and get your data more out there. I also learned that all the smart devices in your home, like an Amazon Echo or a Google Home, talk to other servers besides you and are constantly recording data even if you are not talking to them. In all reality we are the product for AI devices. We are technically the experiment which is kind of scary to think about. I learned a lot about privacy and where our data goes. I hope I continue to learn more!
